Episode 204: Classroom Resources (Immigration)

Listen to Episode 204 here!

Before They Listen:

Here is an introductory worksheet (super basic, but necessary) that I use to gage how much students already know about immigration, push-pull factors, and nativism.

In-Depth:

I always have students read through this Cartoon History of Nativism in America to give them historical context on the immigration debate.

Brown University’s The Choices Program is an amazing resource for teachers covering current events. They offer some free resources, but most you have to pay for. But let me tell you, they’re worth it. This Immigration Policy Debate gives students background information, four policy options, and resources to facilitate a discussion/debate over the future of U.S. immigration policy.

After They Listen:

This is a fascinating episode on the immigration debate in a small town in Alaska from This American Life that students always find interesting.
